In response to these challenges, the Agenda for Sustainable Development (including the SDGs), the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction underline the importance of integrated approaches towards achieving sustainability and resilience []. This book attempts to provide insights into the achievement of a sustainable urban form, through spatial planning and implementation; here, we focus on planning experiences at the levels of local citi and ecological protection—with a view to achieving a sustainable urban form.

  In fact, a number of studies dealing with such issues have not been conclusive in identifying determinants for sustainable urban forms of cities. Many researches have been produced focusing on the impacts of the urban form on mobility behavior and the relative environmental and social impacts (Boarnet & Crane ; Handy, ).
